About the event
Call of the Wild Series
Join us in the practice and art in fire keeping.
Its easy to think that its all about making the fire, and then its job done. When in reality, the process begins much earlier, and continues long after the fire is lit.
Wildfire craft offers a balance of sacred responsibility and discipline in the keeping of fire. From the very beginning of the journey of understanding what it the purpose and intention of your fire. Only when that has been discovered, can you really move into the firemaking process, from harvesting your tinder bundle responsibly from our natural surroundings, creating a nest in which our ember will grow from, hosting the space where a spark and ember can be made and carried into the bundle, then breathing life into it.
But it doesn't stop there..
Once a fire is lit, there is a responsibility to tend to the fire, stoke it, feed it, and finally, safely and responsibly tend to its burning remains.
We will explore all of these stages of fire tending, and practice making fire through flint & steel, and using a bow drill (fire by friction) to create an ember.
We will set ourselves up in a beautiful hidden sanctuary, tucked away in the valleys of Lantau island where we will have access to washrooms, water refills and be treated to a slice of ancient Hong kong. Indoor and sheltered space will be available in case of severe or heavy rain.
We ask that participants should all bring a packed lunch and snacks for the day.
