Drum Bag Weaving Workshop

"The circles of women around us weave invisible nets of love that carry us when we're weak, and sing with us when we are strong" 

There is that all too familiar feeling that life is passing us by. 

When we're on cruise control, and just trying to make it to the end of the day. 

Those moments when we're at a party with plenty of people but feel so alone. 

We are creatures of community, we long to be connected to something, whether its people, Nature, the seasons or the present moment. 

We long for a sense of true belonging, that feeling we get when we're allowed to show our truest and fullest colours. To be seen, heard, recognized and accepted just as we are. 

In this gathering, we guide each person in creating their own bag, strung and woven together with your bare hands.  

Transforming a ball of string into a carrier to hold what is dear to you.

Join our little community, where we weave more than just a bag, but weave our stories, our breath, our support for one another. 

The story of the first bag I ever wove came from a typhoon. I had just had the privilege of being guided in weaving together my first medicine drum. Finding myself stuck inside with this new and sacred drum, I realised I had no way to carry it. Using materials I found laying at home, I began weaving. I let my hands take over, and 6 hours later with the wind howling outside, I completed my very first bag. 

It was in no way perfect. There were imbalances, one side was slightly different to the other, I did some of the knots wrong.

But I loved it.

I poured myself into the creation of this bag, and it served its purpose beautifully. As a home and carrier of my new drum. I was so proud.

Do you have to have a drum to join this workshop?

Absolutely not - these bags can be made with an intention for carrying whatever you like! 

Where? 

Connecting with and honouring the Earth that offers up all the materials our bag has been created from, we will be holding this workshop in the Forest, where we will weave our bags that will hang from the branches of trees. 

The Forest we will be visiting is a few short minutes away from an MTR station and does not require a long walk or hike to reach. 

How?

You will be taught the skills, knots and offered unlimited support and guidance in the weaving of your bag. Depending on the size of your bag, the workshop could take anywhere between 3 - 5 hours. 

We will rest for a break in having lunch, and a wild tea ceremony at mid-day. 

What?

All materials, string and bamboo bag handles will be provided for. 

All participants should bring a packed lunch and we invite a sharing platter style lunch where each person brings a dish to contribute to the pot luck style outdoor dining!
