About the event
Call of the Wild SeriesÂ
Carve your own spoon out of a fallen branch from the Forest and give it a second life!
Carving has been a powerful form of meditation, focus, concentration and relaxation for your guide, Jasmine. The space that you enter into when you begin carving wood blends you and this branch together. You learn to read the grains of the wood, working with it and not against it. Its about uncovering what lays within the wood, rather than forcing it to become what you want it to be.Â
This workshop will offer several different techniques to safely, and effectively carve wood into a spoon. We will be practicing different techniques and using a number of different tools. It is highly recommended that you join the carving and whittling workshop prior to this to gain some basic knife use and safety skills. However, if you have some basic experience and are comfortable using a knife, beginners are also welcome.Â
The workshop will be held outdoors, under the shade of trees. In the event of heavy rain, we will move our carving practice to a sheltered, covered space.Â
Participants should all bring a packed lunch and enough water for themselves.Â
We hope to open the door to a new hobby and practice that will be rewarding for years to come.Â
