Wild Wednesdays - Basket Weaving

Call of the Wild Series

Learn the art and skill of weaving vessels and baskets from only plant material.

This workshop will show you from start to finish how to weave a container basket using only the beautiful plants that bless our Forests. Participants will be guided to foraging their own basket materials, hand picking and selecting very consciously what materials will make up their own creations.

We will set ourselves up in a beautiful hidden sanctuary, tucked away in the valleys of Lantau island where we will have access to washrooms, water refills and be treated to a slice of ancient Hong kong. Indoor and sheltered space will be available in case of severe or heavy rain.

Weaving will take place under the trees and sitting on the Earth, the same way many of our ancestors would have done. This practice and skill does require focus, patience and humility as we work together with the basket that is being formed. Weaving is a teacher in itself, reflecting back to us what pieces we hold onto, and where we might be knotted.

Jasmine wishes to acknowledge and honour the teachers she has been blessed to sit with, and the many ancient traditions that still practice this craft as a fundamental part of their culture and livelihood. Kembali also wishes to acknowledge the women, over thousands of generations who sat for hours on the Earth, content in sharing this same practice.

We ask that participants should all bring a packed lunch and snacks for the day.

The Call of the Wild series offers 10 weeks of workshops on Earth Skills and Nature Connection Guidance. Each week we offer a different focus, with participants opting to join packages of 5 weeks or 10 weeks, with a limited number of drop in sessions available for one off attendees.

The series is designed to build on from previous skills gained from joining over a period of time, which deepens connection, practice, and the community of people who gather together in learning these skills.
